Founded in 2020
Before opening Golden Flower Herbal Academy in 2020, we had spent decades traveling the country hosting in-person continuing education classes. We believe that by staying current in our profession serves our patients better.
Our Educational Mission
The mission of Golden Flower Herbal Academy is to enhance the education of all practitioners of the benefits of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine.

Instructors and Writers
John Heuertz
John Heuertz is a graduate of the International Institute of Chinese Medicine and later served on their Faculty Advisory Board. He is a lecturer and research consultant for Golden Flower Chinese Herbs and the formulator of the Chinese herbal remedy Ji Xue Formula. Dr. Heuertz has a private family practice in Albuquerque, New Mexico and in the nearby Jemez Mountains
Jake Schmalzriedt
Jake Schmalzriedt, DOM, is a Doctor of Oriental Medicine who specializes in pain management and herbal medicine. Currently, he is the acupuncturist on staff at the VA medical center in Butler, PA. Jake has written papers on a variety of subjects within the scope of acupuncture and East Asian medicine and has lectured on East Asian medicine. Most recently, he has been focusing his research and writing on modern applications of classical Chinese herbs and formulas.
John Scott
John Scott is a Doctor of Oriental Medicine in private practice since 1982. He is the founder and president of Golden Flower Chinese Herbs, has been an advocate for Oriental Medicine on a local, state, national, and international level. He has taught classes in the field and been active in research. His particular passion for Chinese herbal medicine guides his writing and teaching.
